Sarastro’s Sun, filling the stage at the finale, is an homage to the sunburst chandelier at the Metropolitan Opera House. It was a gift of Austrian crystals to New York from Mozart’s homeland, and has come to epitomize all opera. This miniature is made of Austrian crystals as well. Rather than hanging from the ceiling, it rises from the floor like a fountain, symbolizing the success of Tamino and Pamina, and Sarastro’s pride.
